Normally, Studebakers don't get much exposure in car magazines, except as
part of an event or very rarely in an article featuring an outstanding
individual car. There is an especially large void when you're looking for
Studebakers featured in any kind of performance magazine or as a serious
performance car.
However, there is a magazine "out there" who has added
Studebakers to it's offerings, and all of it looks like it's been in a positive
light. Here is a plea from our own Bob Palma for all Studebaker folks to support
the magazine, "Musclecar Enthusiast". It's a magazine who's not afraid to show
Studebakers as something other than a slow, old guy's car.
Bob has been tireless in trying to get some well deserved exposure for the
performance aspect of our beloved Studebakers. My thanks for all your hard work
Bob.
A couple of notes, you can subscribe at, http://www.musclecarenthusiast.com/default.asp
Also, you can send letters to the editor thanking him for the Studebaker
coverage at MCE@amosautomotive.com,
Or you can send snail-mail to him at,

Anyway, here it is right from Bob Palma.......
"Hello, Everyone.
This post is a shameless appeal for as many of you as feel so moved, to
subscribe to Musclecar Enthusiast magazine promptly. If you do, tell them you
appreciate their acknowledgement of Studebaker high-performance cars. To wit:
I today received the April 2004 edition via mail subscription. It is heavily
Mustang, as they are featuring the 40th Anniversary of the Mustang's April 17,
1964 introduction. On the Letters to the Editor Page 70, however, they
reprinted, larger this time, the nice color photo of Richard Poe's 1963 R1 Lark
and George Krem with The Plain Brown Wrapper, the photo they used in the
December MCE within their 2003 Pure Stock Musclecar Drag Race report.
Richard had written to thank them for their Stude coverage within that
December report, so they placed Richard's letter in a nice color shadow box with
that photo. They also published a complimentary, Stude-oriented letter from
Everett "Chick" Nauha, who owns the beautiful white 1964 Super Hawk on
Page 11, February 2004 Turning Wheels.
Last week, I mailed MCE's Editor Steve Statham a fresh "comp copy" of
the February 2004 Turning Wheels (The Pure Stock Drags report), to re-enforce
Steve's apparent positive attitude toward Studebakers.
Hemmings Muscle Machines is the General Motors in this market, but they have
shown little interest in Studebaker within that magazine's first seven issues. I
don't know about the first 16 or so issues of Musclecar Enthusiast, but included
in the last six or so have been several high-po Studebaker mentions, always in a
positive light. I've subscribed to Musclecar Enthusiast as a result and hope
you'll consider it, too. Amos Press' MCE will never be as big or have the market
penetration that Hemmings will enjoy with HMM, but if we all zeroed in on the
biggest company, we'd all be collecting Camaros and 289 Fairlanes, not 289
Studebakers.
Our friend Tom Shaw will be doing some free-lance writing for MCE, and he has a
positive attitude toward Studebakers, too. (By the way, Amos had a few glitches
when rolling Tom's defunct Musclecar Power subscription list into their own
Musclecar Enthusiast subscriber list, so if you were "due" some MCPs
and haven't gotten any MCEs yet, Amos Press subscription service will be most
friendly if you call them.)
A year's Musclecar Enthusiast is 12 issues and sells for $24.97, about half the
cover price. The mailing address for new subscriptions is: Musclecar Enthusiast,
P.O.Box 4487, Sidney OH 45365-9893. (Don't be confused about any Florida
addresses; their Editorial Office is in Lakeland FL; production and distribution
address is Sidney OH. Amos Press publishes other journals, too; the most
commonly-known to most of us being Cars & Parts magazine.)
Thanks for your consideration. BP" |
