Well.... As of this week we still do not know if this event will be held in 2022.
Covid, sponsor dropouts, corporate funding... What a cluster****....
As a team, we have stayed in contact with the host event sponsor, J.E. Pistons.
So far we have no commitment from them.
However. We have gotten confirmation from them that they have no intention to change the rules package that was in place before Covid shut everything down.
So, Having scrutinized the rules package, Digger Dave and I have spent a lot of time planning on what would the best strategy be for the Studebaker Power Team's entry.
Not only have the plans been laid, but some of the parts have been acquired from generous (and very patient Stude sponsors).
The engine design, displacement, RPM range, and the engine has been 98% assembled and soon should be ready to go on the dyno.
We have the two superb FST carbs from the last event, and now have a Holley Terminator EFI unit (allowed in the rules).
Digger is pressing forward and the team will be ready...
Now, if the rest of the event people will get going!!!!!

Here's a teaser... Digger put it all together anyways.
259 cid. Bored .060" (267 cid)
Naturally aspirated. 750cfm FST 4bbl.
1st pull. Kept the RPM down to about 6500 rpm. Break in oil...
Wait for it......
395 HP...

Just a note..
This was an excited phone call update from "Digger" Dave.
He was rattling numbers off so fast that I did not have time to get a paper and pen to write them down.
His conversation with Tony Bischoff (BRE) was that there was a LOT more going to be wrung from this combo.
Digger Dave's 'puter sim said 417hp was possible. Tony said that number was way conservative.
Digger Dave's actual numbers on past Stude engines has been within 1&1/2% (of the 'puter sim), so this looks super good.
I'll wait for the actual BRE dyno numbers before vocalizing the "what if's".
There was a tech issue that halted further pulls that day. Best be super careful rather than hurt something.
Now, To do my best to answer your question(s).
It is the total combination of parts. Not 'just' the heads, the intake, the cam, the rods, or the pistons.
It is the total package, and then the assembly, and then the tuning.
So, this is a Stude block. Bored .060", 259 crank (with a LOT of metal removed), Flathead Ford forged rods (pin guided), custom forged lightweight pistons, lightweight flywheel, Jeff Rice CNC heads and intake (further worked on by BES), 750 CFM FST carb, lightweight 8mm valves, triple wound valve springs, Phil Harris billet camshaft (Digger Dave's spec's), early Hemi solid lifters, tube headers.
I am super excited about this engine, and bummed out at the apparent loss of the dyno competition event. Grrrrrr.
We were ready to go win it all... Well, we ARE ready to go win it all.

Hey Guys on 1/26/23 at Bes Racing Engine's dyno our 268" Studebaker engine made 408hp & 340# torque.That's 1.522hp per cube!!! Just a taste of things to come. Not too bad. Will post more later.

Wow, over 1.5 hp/cubic inch normally aspirated............that's great! And very close to Digger Dave's computer simulation of 417 hp.
