THE place to document, in chronological order, ON-GOING progress/milestones of ANY high performance Studebaker project. Projects include any major/lengthy - repair/modification/resto/total rebuild OR an extensive build/development/modification of a high performance Studebaker part/system. Including as much info/many photos about/of your project is greatly appreciated! ON-GOING PROJECTS ONLY PLEASE.
Well, After owning the "Yellow POS" for 25 years, the time has come.
I have told people repeatedly that the belly button 350 V8 would come out just as soon as I blew it up.
It was running poorly, and my friends were telling me to get over to their place to fix it.
I've been to busy to concentrate on anything other than heads and intakes, so the truck always took a back burner.
My friends got it running great and purring like a kitten. Then the trouble started. It started pushing into the coolant.
Would overheat and popped a leak in the radiator core. I went home disgusted, only to come back the next morning to find the heads off, and the radiator pulled. (Did I say I have great friends?). The radiator leaking was not a surprise, as the one in the truck was cobbled by the previous owner.
No water in the oil at all. Engine had been running rich, so most everything was 'rich black". Except for one little spot on the head by one exhaust valve.
We conferred over some adult beverages. Either I have the heads pressure checked and fix the radiator...and hope nothing else was bad, or....
Pull the damned small block out and put in a real Stude engine.
More libation discussion followed.
Next thing was the engine was pulled and all the pieces were brought home. The truck was trailered home, too.
And the Studebaker parts quest has begun!
More later,
Jeff
Hmmm.........maybe a clone of the Studebaker Power Team's Masters of Motors entry? Or, maybe a supercharged Studebaker V8? I agree with nox, this will definitely be interesting!

Why just a clone?
How about some of the actual parts?
Workin' on collecting all the bits and pieces now..

Jeff, what ever you do, make it reliable. At our age, better to enjoy with a little less power than to "window the block" and rebuilding again!
Yessir.
This is a long-term 'goal' engine. Going to be mild compression (pump gas). More than likely naturally aspirated.
Want to showcase/show off different manifold/carb/efi setups.
Kind of like changing dresses or shoes (not that I would know anything about that <lol>)
Want ti to get great mileage.
Has to have enough grunt to tow the '37 CE matching trailer...
Idea's and thought are appreciated and considered.
Thanks!
Jeff
