Since today is the start of Speedweek leading to the Daytona 500 , here is a pic from way back when.....
Interesting that the sponsor of the car was San Juan Motors here in Daytona . That was a small dealer down on Beach St.
That street had many of the car dealers on it , but after most of them moved out to other locations , it fell into a malaise .
At various times , San Juan was a Mopar dealer , and for a couple of years Studebaker as well. Recent years has been motorcycle shops in there .
Now out of that is being redeveloped as Florida continues to grow rapidly .

Nice picture & info Bill! I've always had a soft spot for these little buggers since my really early years.
Here's quite famous father & son Petty winning big with 170 alu engines in Valiant:

In Australia they kept building them a little longer than in the US & used 14 inch wheels, loads better I know from experiance since I always tried to get that for my own Valiants.

Sonja has melted quite a lot towards the Valiant so I'm gonna go looking at it in the coming week, but I also have to to some construction work in the cafe's kitchen.
& Josephine have started leaking gas again from where the pipe leaves the tank, the nut that holds the pipe has been impossible to get in in the right straight angle so I used a lot of two component stuff to seal it but now the gas is dripping again, I can only fill about 5 liters before it drips out... So I pushed Bob back & put Josephine in again & lifted her left rear side, took off the wheel, then the exhaust pipes & then the towhook, next step is to get the tank out & fixed in a good way!
The towhook was hard to get off as it sits with a nut on the top of the axel tunnel under the LPG tank but I managed to get it lose, it's about 1/3 inch between the frame the tank sits on & the tunnel. It looks like this from underside:
Avgas FramIfrån.JPG
& by the way; Chrysler & Studebaker often used the same design people & that sure shows & even thou I find 54-55 Studebaker wagons & 59-61 Lark wagons really pretty I must say that I find the 60-62 Valiant wagons the most beautiful wagons of all car brands I ever seen.

I had a similar problem years ago.
It was a simple ting to clean and solder the joint back to liquid tight.

But since you have epoxy in the joint now, I don't think anything but a good cleaning and a "better" epoxy will work.
I've used the two part, "J-B Weld" with very good results. I bought a car (67 Chevy II) with a leaking carburetor. I used the J-B Weld on the carburetor that had stripped threads at the fuel inlet. Cleaned and dried well, coated the threads, that added a some to the outside at the joint. While I only drove the car with that engine about 9 months before removing it, it never leaked at all.

Good luck.

Yeah, at first I have to clean away all the "bondo" & see how to go from there. This time the tank will be out & free from rear axel & exhausts so I hope it's gonna be easier this time, it takes to much time & effort to remove both towhook & exhaust pipes, especially the hook is a lot of work. I also had the exhaust ends fastend at the hook, gonna change that now.

We had a pretty heavy storm here this night so there's a lot of stuff to be taken care of now, a small tree by the gate is one & so on...

So the last days I've had a strange cold coming at me in the evening, being real bad in the morning but as soon as I start moving around & doing some heavy stuff it retreats! This has been going on for 3 days now but now at the 3:d evening I feel best so far & I've been at Josephine's tank problem most of the day.
So I got it out (gee that's also some work, mostly with the filler pipe, clamps & hose) & knocked the "bondo" off, it had kracked for some reason & that really pussled me...
Then the work started to get it all to fit; I had to get a new pipe & then I saw I could use another connection that's possitioned anout 2-3 inches from the tank + the nut holding the pipe into the tank had been threaded in the wrong angle already before my time as owner & that is the problem I've been having loads of trouble with as you probably know by now. But this time I managed, after at least one hour, to get it straight!
So here's a pic of the old pipe & bondo crack:

Yes, the problem was the nut that's been threaded in slanted already since before my time & I've been trying a couple of times to get it in straight but I never managed before. This time I took a steel nut (is it called "nut" when it has a hole for the pipe to go thru?) & with a ring spanner/wrench & by taking it easy, looking closely & pressing hard to make sure it fitted straight I finaly managed.

The cold remains the same thou; it slowly gets me in the evenings & is worse when I wake up but by mid day I'm alright. Strange, I never had it like this before but at my young 62 yeras I reckon it's what I can expect...

Today it's all going back again, maby I'll make a different hook for the exhaust end or maby not, I'll see how it feels when I'm there.
& another thing; there's some foam rubber on top of the tank, so I guess some ex owner put that there to prevent vibrations & at that managed to screw in the pipe angled. Maybe...

Just "got to tell you" about last night... I was just falling asleep when I wokend myself by coughing BADLY & it wouldn't stop; you know when it rattles in your chest & hurts & so on... & suddenly Sonja says she just rememberd we have cough medicine!
So "with a head filled woth cotton" I went up & sure enough, in the fridge was a bottle, so I took the smallest glas we have & drank it in 3 sips, it felt numbing, tasted bad + mint.
I stopped coughing... Good so far! But after a while I figured it might have been good if I had read the text, especially the warning text cuz my heart started pumping strong!
That didn't continue for long thou & maby it wasn't the medicine but next time I'll read!

Today it's gale winds & rain so Josephine have to wait, hopefully not longer than afternoon.
Life can be "exiting" sometimes, & as I say "it deep-ends"...

No my head felt just as normal. I avoid medicine as much as possible, must have been at least 10 years since I took any at all, even for headache since I know it always passes & I usualy just wait or sleep if I can.
Anyway, it's over now.

We had another strong gale yesterday but now it's nice weather again, sun & light winds, so I might work on Josephine in the afternoon after work.
Last week I was gonna buy a new thermostat cuz I don't trust the one Josephine has now but the places I went to didn't have any in stock so I had a place order it, they don't have much on the shelves for real cars anymore, to few who drives older cars nowadays. Anyway, yesterday we went to town to do shoping & I went to get the thermostat... There was one guy before me at the counter... The guy behind the counter & the customer spoke in a zombie way & seemed to think a lot... Quiet for looong times... Then they walked over to some shelves by the door & did the same there...
(I had just left Sonja & Ozzian by another store to get them after I had got my thermostate so I wasn't in a mood to just stand & wait while these guys were having "a moment" with eachother in their kinda session)
I was looking at the guys a lot, walking back & forth between them & the counter & making sounds to get them to realize there was a world outside of their own box but they were in their own tight bubble... So in a BAD mood I finaly walked by them fast & left & thought I'd come back later to get my stuff & never go into that stor ever again... So I drove over to get my fambly & (yes I know that's slang but I like it!) after they got in the car I drove back, got out of the car only to see that there was another guy waiting & the zombies were still(!) in their bubble!
So now I'll let them keep the thermostat & get one from another place & I'm gonna tell the store owner about all this.
I've been working in shops like that myself & I know what it means to have a service job, the guy in this shop obviously don't, & like Ozzian said "he could just showed the other customer the shelves & gone over to help you & then vome back & kept on the zombie session!"
My soon-to-be-13-years-old son seems more inteligent than some adults sometimes.

This week it's been holidays for the schools so Sonja & Ozzian took off to Gøteborg to visit Sonja's parents / Ozzian's grandparents & relatives while I stayed home to work on the kitchen sink at the cafe' & so I did...
Two times I had to drive into town to get stuff & for the rest Josephine also took me to work & home every day. But yesterday as I arrived to work I saw water dripping from Josephine's front...
& I thought it was from a wee bit overheating as she's been doing that one time before a while ago & at that time I just filled water & it was good again. So I filled her up again & put a bucket under to see...
& I saw it didn't stop dripping! :(
"Ah, not today, I'll take care of that tomorrow".
& as I went out this morning & it's been a cold night (where's spring or global warming when you need it?)
& what I saw wasn't a total surprise but less fun never the less:

Not long ago I bought a radiator because the one I had don't fit under the 53-54 hood & now that new one might be wrecked... I though I was gonna take this day off & just relax, let's see how that goes...
Sunday, sun-day & yep it's shining.

After doing all sorts of stuff I finaly drove Josephine to the barn & thought I would just let the water out & remove the front but when I looked under I saw this:
(do you see the drop?)

It was only the hoseclamp thar was lose! So I let it take care of it itself & went for coffee...

Some years ago there was quite a lot of talking about lowering the front & now that I saw this video I can't help getting curious about what year Corvette spindle he used...
Am I the only curious one about this?
