289 pistons, what year motor had these ! Look

Post by Duker 56 »

What year of a 289 motor had these pistons in them or are these aftermarket ? the 1st pic is a stock piston I think. 2nd and 3rd pic are Very thick skirts and did all the pistons have the side hole to get to the top rod bolt ? With a flat top dome. Thanks for all your info!!

If the engine is a 289 , the flattops pistons are the R1 pistons . Regular 289's have dished pistons .
If the engine is a 259 , flat-tops are standard , and sit down in the bore a little ways . The difference is the stroke , and pin height .

Buy one of the readily available factory Shop Manuals ( there's original and reprints on eBay every day ) , and also get a parts manual that covers the years that your car / engine is . The exploded views are worth a million words , and the part numbers help to decipher things .

here's some links , many more out there.......

If you can't get there in a STUDEBAKER,
it ain't worth goin' .

Not enough pics, but most likely a 259" piston.
